Paul has played piano, clarinet, string bass, electric bass, with the acoustic guitar his principal instrument - and in 3 incarnations of the Living Archive Band. He has written over 20 songs for Living Archive since 1976 including for All Change, Days of Pride, Nellie, Albert French, Sheltered Lives, Joey Guest and Worker by Name.
On writing two of his finest songs, Paul says: ‘I read Hawtin Mundy’s description of his experience at Arras - The Valley of the Shadow had to be slow and stark; whereas Sheltered Lives had to be an idealised, optimistic view of life in Wolverton. And because it was set in the ‘30s, it had to be a jazz tune.’
Paul was Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Open University in Milton Keynes until his recent ‘retirement’. He is now busier than ever giving seminars all over the world.
